Steelhead & Trout fly fishermen hike their way each year through miles of scenic waterways. As an avid traveling fisherman, I’m always on the lookout for equipment that enhances this experience.

For my travels, wearing the traditional vest is a cumbersome affair. I have found my vest pockets stuffed with boxes bursting with enough gear to last weeks, months or even years. How much gear does one person really need for a day outing?

Need one item? The search is on! Taking off your raincoat, you fumble through all the pockets only to end up taking the vest off. You find what you need and put everything back on. After this ordeal, you’re uncomfortably bound-up with all those layers. Now, try to cast!

After continuous use and thoughtful consideration, I believe a few improvements could carry this bag to the next level. Improvements such as the addition of a couple of D-rings, and weatherizing the material and zippers for inclement weather.  Drain holes would also be a great addition, should water collect in the pockets. It would be fantastic to have a salt-water version to this line of sling packs in the near future.
