Do you remember when mom or dad made the statement, “there’s no such thing as free lunch in this world”? Just tell that to the seals and cormorants that lay and wait for their next free meal at the mouth of the Rogue River in Gold Beach, Oregon.
It’s not just in Gold Beach that this happens but up and down the coast in every Oregon estuary where Salmon run.
As we left for the short ride to our spot, seeing all these “reminders” laying on the beach and perched in their command posts just makes me wonder. What do we have to do to bring a balance to our fishery so that us fisherman can enjoy our own Salmon lunch? In reality there is no free lunch for man or for seal.
It’s the start of fall Salmon fishing season on the coast. The fish are beginning to arrive, and we hope in larger numbers this season than in years past.
The bay is starting to fill with boats, people and of course the seals. We hope there will be a Salmon lunch somewhere for a fisherman in the Rogue Bay this year.
